The world needs our help. The Earth’s ecosystem is in shambles. Many of us here have heard of climate change and how most of our daily habits contributed to it. Although we have all heard of this issue, we often feel lost and hopeless when trying to fix it. There is plenty of information readily available on how climate change came to be, but minimal on how we should fix it.
I’m here to tell you that there is no need for feeling lost and hopeless because there are plenty of things you can do to save our planet. Here is a list of seven things everyone can do to help restore and protect our ecosystem.
1. WATER CONSERVATION
Reducing the amount of water you use can decrease runoff and wastewater that ends up in our oceans. Consider cutting down the time you spend in the shower or turning off the sink while brushing your teeth. Reducing the water you use is one of the easiest and effective ways to help our planet.
2. ECO-FRIENDLY COMMUTING
The pollution that cars create heavily contributes to climate change. Utilizing more eco-friendly commuting options can help reduce this pollution immensely. Try biking or taking public transportation such as buses and trains to get to your destination.
3. NON-TOXIC CLEANING PRODUCTS
Many of the cleaning products we see on supermarket shelves include harsh chemicals that contaminate our waterways. Try to only purchase non-toxic and eco-friendly cleaning products. It’s better for the planet and your health.
4. ENERGY-EFFICIENT LIGHTING
Energy-efficient lighting options reduce green-house gas emissions and last longer. Try switching out the light bulbs in your house for energy-efficient alternatives. It can save the planet and save you money.
5. THE THREE Rs
We have all heard them before:
Following the three Rs can significantly cut down on the amount of waste we produce in our everyday lives.
Reduce your consumption of products, reuse them if it’s possible, and recycle them when they need to be discarded. Read product labels to ensure it is recyclable.
6. PLANT TREES
Trees are not only beautiful; they are valuable to the ecosystem. They provide both food and oxygen. They can also purify the air and save energy, which helps combat climate change. Try planting a tree in your front or backyard. It is one of the greatest things you can do to give back to our planet.
Education may be last on this list, but it is certainly not the least important. Educating both the young and older generations on how the planet is affected by our actions and how to change them could have a profound impact. It may inspire people to take action and make a difference. It’s hard to change what we don’t know is wrong.
Saving the planet is a big challenge to face, but it can be done. It’s a group effort that relies on every single one of us taking responsibility for our contribution to the issue. Make an eco-friendly change today.
