HOW TO SAVE ENDANGERED ANIMALS

HOW TO SAVE ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Animals all around the world are in danger, and we have to do something about it. Arctic foxes are struggling to find food. Sea turtles are losing the fight against climate change and human selfishness. And several species of bees have been put onto the endangered species list.

My mom and I have been learning about endangered species recently. We've discovered that there are many things we can do to help slow and stop the extinction of these magnificent creatures. We want to share what we've learned with you.

SAVING ARCTIC WILDLIFE

Animals in the arctic are struggling due to climate change. Sea ice is melting quicker and forming later each year, leaving animals, such as polar bears, less time to hunt. Arctic species are endangered because their habitat is quickly becoming non-existent. Check out these two small ways you can help save the Arctic.

ADOPT A POLAR BEAR

Through the WWF, you can symbolically adopt a polar bear. By adopting a polar bear, you are donating to their global conservation work. The money helps them conduct research that will help them conserve the polar bears' habitat.

REDUCE CARBON EMISSIONS

Carbon emissions from motor vehicles are a huge contributing factor to climate change. And this temperature change is also what is causing the arctic to melt. By walking or biking to work or school, we can reduce the amount of carbon we emit. If you have to drive, try carpooling. The fewer vehicles on the roads, the better.

These small and simple efforts can enact great change for the Arctic and its wildlife.

SAVING OUR POLLINATORS

Bees bring such beauty to our planet, but this may soon not be the case if we don't make some changes. Chemicals and the destruction of their habitats have put these mighty but powerful insects in danger. Here are two ways we can help them.

DON'T USE PESTICIDES

To kill unsightly weeds and keep unwanted insects and animals out of a garden or lawn, people will use what is known as pesticides. But the harmful chemicals in these pesticide products can kill bees and destroy their food sources. If you use these products, try boiling water to kill your weeds and natural bee-safe sprays to protect your garden as an alternative.

PLANT A POLLINATOR GARDEN

As we previously mentioned, bees' food sources are being destroyed and becoming unsafe for them. Not only can we fix this by not using pesticides, but we can also plant gardens made just for them. All you have to do is fill it with plants bees love. If you want to go the extra mile, you can also keep a hive of bees right in your yard next to the garden.

The best thing about both of these tips is that they are easy to do.

SAVING MARINE ANIMALS

Marine life is also suffering due to climate change and water pollution. We all know about using metal straws and reusable water bottles, but what else can we do? Well, we have one simple suggestion.

VOLUNTEER

Beaches need your help to clean up trash and waste. Without this help, the trash can drift out into the ocean and pollute the water. Things such as plastic bags are often mistaken as food by whales and other marine life.

This small task may not seem like much, but if you gather a group of friend's you may be surprised by the difference you can make.

SPEAK UP

These small acts of kindness to the animals on our planet could save them if we stick together as people. Educate your friends and family about this important topic any chance you.

Your small efforts matter! Love, Alessia
